Inventory Management of Food Retail Chain Stores in Ukraine

Background
 
The case study is about a well-known food retail chain store in Ukraine. The company has retail chain stores in more than 58 cities and towns in Ukraine, providing consumers with a wide variety of food products. To further improve the management and services of retail chain stores, the company introduced the Chainway C66 handheld computers for the inventory management of more than 160 retail chain stores.
 
Challenges
 
1. Retail chain stores have a wide variety of product categories, and the daily or regular product inventory workload is massive. The original manual inventory method is time-consuming, error-prone, and inefficient.
2. It is difficult to find goods in-store warehouses, unable to respond to customer needs in the first time, customers have a long waiting time and low satisfaction.
3. The update time of product inventory information is slow, and problems such as shortage of best-selling products or unsalable products expire.
4. Each chain store cannot share inventory information directly, and the headquarters cannot obtain the inventory status of each chain store's goods in the first time, and cannot schedule and fill the shortage in time.
5. The headquarters cannot get the status of merchandise sales for each store. It is difficult for company management to allocate inventory quickly to the various stores and implement marketing strategies following the market condition.
 
Solution
 
Responding to the above mention problems and needs realized by the company. Chainway helps the company management by offering C66 handheld computers for integrating with an inventory management application. This solution successfully realized the informatization of commodity inventory and management. Within this solution, the company management assigned a unique barcode for every product. All the product's information is registered with their respective barcode number in a management information system by the operation staff. For inventory update, the inventory staff needs to use the Chainway C66 handheld terminal to scan the barcode label pasted on the goods. After completing the inventory, the operator transfers the inventory data to the background database in real-time through the wireless network. It does not only make the inventory process simple and more convenient, but also improves the efficiency of inventory management significantly.
 
Effects
 
1. A large number of goods can be counted in a short duration by the new system. It effectively reduces the workload of workers.
2. Directly upload the inventory data to the ERP system through the handheld terminal, which avoids manual data entry errors and is more accurate and efficient.
3. Real-time inventory data sharing allows managers to obtain inventory information that makes management decisions in time and achieve visual inventory management.
4. The informatization of the merchandise management of chain stores helps to strengthen the unified management of each store. It improves the overall service quality, brand image and attracts more consumers.
