In-store Management of LACOSTE with UHF RFID Technology

Background
This case study is about a leading apparel brand known as Lacoste. The retail brand offers a wide range of clothing for all the segments such as men, women, and children. Besides this, Lacoste diversifies its distribution channel through specialty stores, market counters, and online stores in more than 144 countries, especially in Turkey. The company has achieved great success and a good brand image in the Turkey apparel market. To further strengthened its brand and improved the management of logistics & inventory, the management team was looking for intelligent store management based on UHF RFID technology.

Challenges
1. Manual inventory management was time-consuming and error-prone because the company offered a wide range of clothing for all the segments.
2. Looking for a specific item in inventory was a tough task. The operator had to search the item manually which take a long time and often resulted in bad customer experience.
3. Marketing and promotional strategies need data but in Lacoste, real-time sales and inventory data of stores were not available.
4. Manual inventory process could not manage the inventory accurately even at the store level which cases inventory shortage or overstock problem.
5. There were no employee work evaluation criteria. Thus, it was difficult to motivate employees for their best performance.

Solution
Turkey-based Lacoste apparel brand consulted with Chainway corporation for the deployment of the UHF terminal. Finally, C76 UHF mobile computers were selected for the implementation of an intelligent inventory management solution. These devices were deployed at all the stores to scan the cloth labels. These labels included UHF RFID tags that contain all the information about the individual item. C76 device performed operations like stock receiving, shipping, cash register, stock tacking, and stock update. Besides this, all the information collected could be updated in real-time in the central database.

Effects
1. RFID system significantly improves the employee working efficiency. Now they can utilize time to entertain customers and provide their best shopping experience.
2. Accurate and real-time inventory data enables the visual management of warehouse goods and facilitates the timely adjustment of store inventory goods.
3. Access to real-time inventory data helps the store manager to plan inventory requirements for fast-moving items and plan promotional activities for the same.
4. The new system enhances customer satisfaction and improve the brand image among the customers.
