RFID Textile Laundry Management in Norway

Background

Textile service providers supporting hotels, healthcare facilities, industrial companies, and rental businesses manage large volumes of uniforms, linens, and textile assets every day. As these items frequently move through collection, washing, sorting, storage, and delivery processes, traditional manual recording and barcode-based management methods have become increasingly difficult to maintain.
A textile service company in Norway required a more efficient way to track textile assets, improve inventory accuracy, and optimize operational workflows. By deploying Chainway C5 UHF RFID Readers and P80 RFID Tablets, the company established an RFID-enabled management solution for end-to-end textile tracking and digital process optimization.

Challenge

Large textile volumes increase management complexity
The company processes significant quantities of uniforms, linens, and textile products, making manual registration and verification inefficient.
Multiple workflow stages require better traceability
Textiles continuously move between collection, washing, sorting, storage, and delivery, creating challenges for maintaining accurate lifecycle records.
Sorting and delivery errors affect service quality
Different customers, departments, and usage scenarios require precise textile classification, while manual sorting may result in incorrect deliveries.
Limited visibility into textile status
Without real-time information, it is difficult to monitor inventory levels, usage status, and item locations.
High-frequency operations require reliable equipment
Laundry and warehouse environments require devices capable of fast RFID identification, continuous operation, and flexible mobile use.

Solution

The company attached washable RFID tags to textile items and deployed Chainway C5 UHF RFID Readers together with P80 RFID Tablets to digitize the entire textile management process.
  • Unique textile identification through washable RFID tags:
Each uniform, linen item, and textile asset receives a unique RFID identity, enabling lifecycle tracking from collection and washing to storage and delivery.
  • High-speed textile identification with C5 RFID Reader:
C5 enables fast bulk reading of RFID-tagged textiles, allowing employees to complete large-scale inventory checks and verification tasks more efficiently. Supporting a read rate of 1,300+ tags per second and a reading range of up to 30 meters, C5 is suitable for high-volume operations in laundry centers, warehouses, and distribution areas. Its RFID tag locating capability also helps staff quickly find specific textile items during sorting and inventory tasks.
  • Mobile workflow support with P80 RFID Tablet:
The P80 RFID Tablet provides an 8-inch display for viewing textile information, operation instructions, and workflow data during washing, sorting, and delivery processes. Its large-capacity battery design supports extended mobile operations in demanding working environments.
  • End-to-end digital textile management:
RFID devices automatically capture textile movement data during collection, sorting, storage, and delivery, creating a complete digital record of each item’s status and location.
  • Improved laundry and delivery coordination:
Real-time RFID data helps reduce manual verification steps, accelerate textile circulation, and improve coordination between different operational stages.

Result

  • Faster textile inventory operations by replacing manual item-by-item verification with RFID bulk identification.
  • Improved sorting and delivery accuracy through automated identification and RFID-based item tracking.
  • Greater visibility into textile circulation with real-time records of item status, location, and movement history.
  • Higher employee productivity by reducing manual registration and repetitive checking tasks.
  • Improved operational coordination across collection, washing, storage, and delivery processes.
  • Advanced digital transformation in textile services through RFID-enabled lifecycle management.
