Background
With the accumulation of school assets, it is a challenge for the Korea Ministry of Education (MOE) to manage all the assets of the schools under its jurisdiction in a fine-grained manner. In order to better maintain and manage the assets of each school in its jurisdiction, the Korea Ministry of Education (MOE) wants to introduce RFID technology to manage various assets and equipment for teaching and research in schools.
Challenges
1. There are numerous types of school assets in widely dispersed geographies. The asset management and maintenance workload is heavy. The labor cost is high and the management is difficult.
2. There was not an effective tracking record of asset procurement, inventory, maintenance, depreciation, etc. The MOE could not timely monitor the use of assets, which was not helpful to the appropriate development of asset management.
3. Due to the continual accumulation of school assets, a lot of old and idle assets could not be disposed of in a timely manner. These assets not only took up huge amount of space, but also led to a lot of waste.
4. Equipment type asset failures often could not be maintained in time. It was almost impossible to recover or hold accountability for theft or loss.
5. The deficiencies in traditional management could easily lead to inconsistencies between the account statistics and the physical school asset counts, resulting in confusion. The supervision and management was extremely difficult.
Solution
To resolve the above problems, we worked with our Korean partner INFRA ICT to provide the Korea Korean Ministry of Education with an RFID asset management solution based on the P80 RFID tablet application. The solution required the school to put RFID electronic tags on assets after purchase and bind the asset information to the tags after purchase. The information in the tags could then be added, modified and verified according to needs. For each inventory or asset maintenance and management operation, operators could automatically identify the detailed information of the corresponding assets by scanning the RFID tags with Chainway P80 industrial tablets. The information could be transmitted to the server in real time for processing to realize asset data consolidation, clean-up, verification, inventory, etc. and create reports to accomplish the tracking and management of assets.
Effects
1. Through the application of Chainway P80 and RFID asset management system, every single phase in the lifecycle of school assets from procurement, acceptance, warehousing, collection, modification to disposal has been tracked, and thus complete lifecycle management of all school assets has been realized.
2. The use of P80 for asset inventory has greatly improved the efficiency of asset inventory and saved a lot of labor and time costs.
3. Through the P80 automatic collection of asset data, comprehensive asset visualization and real-time update of asset information has been achieved, which is convenient for the Korean MOE to monitor and track the assets of schools in relevant jurisdiction, and has greatly improved the management efficiency.
4. The tracking management of each asset has been realized, ensuring the integrity of the asset, and effectively preventing loss of assets.
5. The solution has unified the decentralized and efficient asset information into the asset management platform. The unification, on the one hand has promoted management reinforcement and rationalization of asset usage, and on the other hand, has provided a decision-making basis for the MOE to better allocate and integrate high school asset management.
